X's New Bunk Bed
Xavier’s bunk bed finally got delivered today! He is so excited. His new bed has his own desk, eight drawers, and a book shelf. He says that he will be ready to do his paperwork in no time. He was really excited that he was able to pick out the blankets and sheets for the beds. He says he can’t wait until he can have his friends stay over in his new extra bed.

Our New Friend
Sunday a cute little face came knocking at our door, well not really he came roaming. We are not quite sure where he came from but he is very friendly. He doesn’t seem to want to leave. Aaron tried to take him on a walk, without a leash, to see if he belonged to anyone in the area and he just stayed right with him until they got home. He has to be one of the sweetest dogs that you would ever meet. X and I secretly hope that he doesn’t have a home and we can keep him, Aaron on the other hand takes after his father and thinks that we already have too many pets.

I am reading a great book by Dr. James Dobson, bringing up Boys. I started reading it because my friends and I have a “book club,” really it is an excuse for us to get together to eat and talk. But this time around I am missing the lunch because I am in Boston. Not such a huge sacrifice, sorry girls. I am decided to write this little rambling because I still wanted them to know how I felt about our book.
There is a chapter titled “Father and Sons” and in it Dobson explains how we as a society have moved away from the traditional family where the father takes the leadership role, is the sole bread winner, protector, and spiritual director of the home. He explains that this necessary for our sons so that they have an example to follow and will be able to grow in the MEN that God created them to be. I have to say that I agree. The fact that there are some groups out there that want women to take on this role is crazy. We are wired differently! I know for a fact that I am thankfully that I have a husband that is MAN enough to step up to do all the things that God asks of him to do for our family. I would not for a minute want to carry the pressure that he holds, but I am always here as the help-meet that I was created to be.
Dobson does not let the mothers off the hook on raising young boys that we can be proud of. He lays it on as thick as he did for the fathers. He points that we as mothers have a huge role in teaching our sons. Being X’s care giver for most of the day I took this chapter to heart. It brought a huge challenge to me that I am the one that he see showing love to people, interacting with his dad, and giving him as much support as he needs as he learns to take life full speed. I think that I need to remember that he is a little sponge and he will be until I am six feet under. I hope that I can be the example God wants me to be for him so that we can raise a young MAN that we can be proud of.

Xavier Flying His Kite
Today we had a break from the heat, it was awesome. Our house is located near some small mountains, so we get some pretty good winds going every couple of days. Today was a perfect day to fly.
Xavier said “You thinkin’ what I am thinkin’?”
To that we reply “No, what?”
“Let’s go fly my kite!”
I don’t blame him for wanting to take part in this most glorious day. Being coupe up in the house because of heat for the last three can’t be any fun for a hyper-fun four year old. He spent most of his day outside. He went to a car show with Papa Honey and he had a bubble party with Mama Julie. Today was quite well round for the first cool day. Tomorrow….the quad!

Rachel Flying Her First Kite
I just wanted to let you all know that we adults were not left out of the fun kite flying. Rachel had the chance to fly a kite for the first time and she didn’t even crash it! We are so proud of her, she is growing up so fast.

Aaron Getting in Some Kite Flying Action
Aaron also got to fly some too. He was getting jealous that he couldn’t find his kite but Xavier was kind enough to let him borrow his for a while.

Xavier Making French Toast
X’s loves to help in the kitchen, it doesn’t matter what I am making. For being only four he know his way around. He was pretty excited the other night ’cause I let him be in charge of flipping the french toast and putting on the pan to go into the oven. He did a great job. He did most of the flipping by himself and only needed a little help. He did a great job making sure that toast didn’t touch in the pan and I think he only burnt two pieces. Not bad for a first timer!
